The Chronicles of Momoberry: Entry 4

Disclaimer: Momoberry's Diaries is Junolyn's version of a Sanrio world that I built in my mind. My imagination takes me to places that I wish could exist in real life. I hope you enjoy my version of Sanrio World, where all you have to do is believe.

Entry 4: The Good Days

Before Sanrio turned my life upside down, the world was full of wonders.

It was a city bustling with energy as Sanrio had just taken over the world. Suddenly, where there was no magic in the world--- it was everywhere you went. Humans had to adapt to their world not being theirs alone anymore. They had to share it with us, characters.

They had to adjust their reality. They had been used to obsessing over us in cartoon films and on paper. Now, they had to get used to us being real. Living in their world-- er, Sanrio World.

Technology is amazing. Amazing, but dangerous. The humans did not expect that with advanced technologies came with consequences. They are the creators of life and it became their downfall as they let their greed rule every action they did.

Like any brand that started, Sanrio had good intentions. They were good people. Like many others, greed for power and money corrupted them. Once they took over the world, all characters were given the same rights as the humans. It came with a price. The price of innocence and good.

You replace one evil, another one just steps into the role and fills it. Humans never learn from the mistakes made in the past. They continue to live life like they are the most important beings in the entire universe. Who made them special and self-entitled?

They are seen on the streets stalking their favorite Hollywood Starlets-- going about their lives as usual. Even with the new pecking order, humans believe that these characters come to life are their personal property. Like with their own race, they fight among themselves for any differences that they deem as their standard way of life.

Humans might love these characters, but they do not like to share the resources. This is the struggle for the characters come to life. It's very difficult to stay "good" in a world that won't let you. It's either be crushed or do the crushing.

Entry 3: Secret Room

As you have guessed it from all the rumors out there...

I am kept in a secret room like a caged animal. I was shocked that Sanrio would do this to me. To anyone. It seems like I'm not the only one caged away. I hear whispers all the time and the wailing at night keeps me up. The rooms aren't bad, but Sanrio has given orders to keep us, prisoners, isolated from each other.

Do I sound bitter? I must be bitter because if you have ever been locked away, you would feel such resentment and hatred toward your jailers. There's this one particular neighbor that I hear singing during the day. Let me tell you that it was not a pleasant experience.

The singing was so bad and off-key that I felt like banging my head to the wall. At least he was singing about happy days, instead of mournful songs. He was constantly singing happy tunes. On rare occasions did his songs turn sad, followed by wails of "Let me oooouttt!"

My jailers here ignore my multiple requests for ear plugs because they don't deem it as a necessity for me. What they mean is that they won't spend a dime on me. It's how cheap they have become. Due to this, I have pleaded with Pippo to stop singing. All the pleadings have not deterred him. He continues to sing... off-key.

Torture at it's best.

The Chronicles of Momoberry: Entry 2

Entry 2: Holding Hands

What I remembered on that day was the bright flash from the photographer's camera. It was blinding that I couldn't quite see for a moment. It was that flash of light that started it all. It changed my whole life. My dreams of being famous began with signing on to be one of Sanrio's starlets in Hollywood.

Sanrio owned me for life.

At the time, I believed everything would be okay. I believed Sanrio could get me global recognition with older audiences. I didn't believe it would all happen at once because starting new takes time and hard work to appeal to new territories.

Alas, Sanrio gave up on me too quickly.
I won't ever forget these words: "We don't need you."
It echoed in my mind for weeks afterwards. Those words shattered my heart into pieces that I'm not sure will ever recover from.

I remembered the first time that I gazed into Sanrio's eyes and was promised that Sanrio would never leave my side. The very first moment that Sanrio held my hands in warm friendship, then to be later, broken was the ultimate defeat. They did not believe I coud further charm others to open their wallets.

Sanrio promised forever, yet they put me on their "backburner."

The Chronicles of Momoberry: Momoberry Diaries

I would like to introduce you to Junolyn's Sanrio World.

It's a place that exists in my head and finally, I have started writing it out. I did a little sketching and coloring to go with these stories. On this journey, I am starting with Momoberry.

Who is Momoberry?

In my world, Momoberry is Hello Kitty's Alter Ego. The secret is that Sanrio has been doing trial experiments on their characters, especially Hello Kitty. It's very hush, hush. No one at the Headquarters are allowed to speak of it. If one does, that person vanishes over night.

It's been said that the only ones with the truth are Hello Kitty's owner, Sanrio, and the Sanrio Stalker Society's President.

When Momoberry first debuted, she was introduced as Hello Kitty's look-alike. A spitting image of Hello Kitty. It was spread around that Momoberry had been randomly found in Hollywood. Sanrio said that Momoberry was older than Hello Kitty and very mature for her kitty age.

Momoberry's stardom was just starting to take off, but then suddenly--- she disappeared. No one knows what happened to her. There have been many speculations, but nothing concrete until now...

Not long ago, someone has found her diaries hidden away. There had been rumors that Sanrio had scurried them away one night and hidden them all over the world.

Yes, it is I, her #1 Stalker who will reveal her diary entries. Two entries per month. Stay tuned.

Well, here is Part One of the Momoberry Diaries.
THE CHRONICLES OF MOMOBERRY

Entry 1: The Photograph

Lately, you've been on my mind. How is the world out there these days? There are moments that I forget what it is like to roam about in the city. To be carefree and wild. Did you know that I would like to party it up nearly every night? I was known as Sanrio's Hollywood Starlet. I was the socialite that made things happened. If things got boring, they sent me in to stir up excitement and revert the attention back to Sanrio. I'd dazzle and charm my fans. I was the life of the party scene.

I miss being the "It" girl. It was an amazing time back then. Everybody got along with each other, despite our differences. The other Sanrio socialites were friendly, but everyone knew the game. Make alliances and keep your enemies closer. We were all in competition with one another, thanks to our owner. It was a yearly battle to see who became Queen or King of Sanrio. Sanrio wanted to see who was more popular and cash out by putting the winner as the Face of Sanrio.

I was the new girl in town and I had high hopes to one day be able to sit up on that throne. To be able to rock out with a crown on top of my head and hear my fans call out: "Long live Queen Momoberry! Long live Queen Momoberry!"

I wish Sanrio hadn't given up on me so easily. I was only given two years at Sanrio and they decided to pull the plug. I'm still shocked to this day.

I will leave you for now, but here's a photo of Sanrio and I. When the photo was taken, it was bitter sweet. Now? Not so much.

XOXO,
Momoberry
