Day After Christmas

The holidays are the best because all the sales happen the day after. What better way to get your groove on, but to do your shopping in excitement of finding your favorite things half off from the original retail price. I did my after holiday shopping bright and early.

X-mas Window Display 2015

What I enjoy most from the holidays are the beautifully arranged holiday window displays. My favorite hands down is probably in Little Tokyo's Japanese Village. I think this Christmas seems more special because Sanrio actually gave us more Winter wear than ever before. One thing we never had were "Ugly" sweaters. The white My Melody outfit in the window display reminds me of a cute outfit to wear at a ski lodge.

While I drooled over the sweaters, I finally bought what I wanted all along: JapanLA's Little Twin Stars Varsity Jacket.

 Source: JapanLA's IG

I'm thrilled to get it for half off the original retail price. As soon as I touched it from the clothing rack, I could tell that this jacket would keep me super warm. The body part of the jacket is soft to touch, whereas the sleeves are made of faux leather. When I first saw this, I wasn't too keen on the the back design because I prefer white unicorns. It was only after I saw Kiki and Lala on the sleeves with mismatching colors that I found the overrall design fascinating.

I think what I like most about the jacket is that one sleeve color is different from the other. It's like a fashion color wheel of pastels. I might not always want to wear a pastel ray of clothes, but I'll make an exception for this particular jacket. In the end, I love the jacket even if I prefer my unicorns to be white lillied colored.

Christmas Nails

When I got my nails done with a Christmas theme, I never expected the results to turn out so good. My nails sparkle like Christmas time -- corny as it may sound. I feel like I am carrying around Christmas lights everywhere I go with the nails shimmering in red and green.

Preview

Ever since I got my nails professionally done by nail technicians, I have spoiled myself that I can never go back to painting my own nails for special occasions. I feel all pampered and girly after getting my nails done. It's a girl's right of passage to get all beautified.

When I see my nails so detailed with 3D art, I feel like I can't just put stickers on it. It feels like the real stuff is adding professional art rather than stickers. I guess it's my nail preference choice that has guided me to Marie Nails. I am always searching for the best of the best.

After each visit to the nail salon, I have realized that my nail designs started off very simple and progressed into a more detailed art design. A week has passed since my last visit and I am so in love with my nails.

Earlier in the month, I knew that my theme would be a red Hello Kitty Christmas nails. I loved my Halloween nails and wanted to have a similar design. I thought that having a full figure of Hello Kitty instead of just the head would be fascinating. I was right. I loved the Santa Kitties on my hand. Each in a different Santa theme outfit.

Shouts Christmas, huh? ;p

If you think about it, I have a present on my finger. It's ready with a bow on top. Here's to a very Merry Christmas this year. May your holidays be bright and full of laughter. Stay warm! XOXO

What I Learned From Hello Kitty Con...

If you are a new collector or a collector who has missed out on the first ever Hello Kitty Con, then here's a list that might help you out in the future for other events:

  1. Long lines is to be expected
  2. You need to arrive early, early--- did I mention very early? ;p
  3. No guarantees that merchandise are exclusive to the event
  4. Items to be sold out early due to greedy scalpers looking to make an easy buck
  5. You know there's a human under there, but you still have the urge to give a character mascot a hug. If you manage to hug Pochacco or Lala, send my regards!
  6. If you know ahead of time of the merchandise at hand, make a priority list. It will help your decisions on where to go from starting point
  7. Get what you really want the most first. You won't regret it.
  8. Make sure you have a sturdy bag or plenty of shopping bags at hand! Cheap plastic or paper thin bags can break or get holes. You don't want to lose precious treasures after standing in long lines to get them
  9. Bring a buddy. For long lines, buddies come in handy if you need to make an emergency run to the bathroom. Also, buddies make the best enablers to help hold your many shopping bags while you try to haggle your way into the crowds to buy a collectible
  10. If you bring a baby stroller into the event, be mindful that running over people's toes do hurt. Accident or not, you should know it's going to be crowded with people on the weekends. Weekdays might be different.
  11. Stay hydrated!
  12. Don't run, do what others do....   high speed sprinting toward your destination
  13. Don't depend on your cards to make a purchase. Make sure to bring cash, just in case a vendor is having card machine difficulties.
  14. Don't forget to pay respects to the security and staff.
  15. Photo ops is a requirement. Get ready to put on a big smile and work it
  16. For a convention, a day or two was not enough time to get to all the activities
  17. To get hyped up, watch a lot of Sanrio collections on youtube a few hours beforehand to get your obsession going on high speed
  18. Get your mindset on Sanriofied or Kittification mode; a brainwashing technique to get you to open your wallet and spend!
  19. Check the weather forecasting for the day.
  20. Don't forget to bring your Hello Kitty or My Melody selfie stick and an iphone charger
  21. Bring pepto Bismols chewables for diarrhea
  22. Most of all, laugh loud and have fun

Junolyn's Wishlist for 2015

I've accumulated a lot of Sanrio stuff in the past couple of years and can easily decorate a room with what I have collected. A room full of my secret stashes that I hoard to myself because I am obsessed over collecting little things like erasers, pencils, stickers, and many more. This is my treasure room.

While my treasure room is crowded with my collection, I am always waiting to add special older pieces that I cannot find in stores or online. While I might one day would like to score the original vintage collectible, I wouldn't mind getting a remake or retro design of the items that I have on my wishlist.

Most collectors have a long never ending wishlist to score. Myself included. For this list, I will only highlight the important ones that I really want.

Here's my list:

1.   White Hello Kitty Telephone

I don't want just any kind of modern telephone from Sanrio. I want a style from the 70's like below. Retro vintage and classic type style. Maybe move the finger.  ;p

2.  Large Size Ceramic Figurines

I am always wanting to own large sizes of ceramic figures. I think I want to own one of all 6 of my favorite Sanrio characters and put them in a glass display case. Crazy, huh? You are probably asking where I would find the space, but in my case--- there are no worries for this collector. Would you give up the opportunity to own this collectible below? I know I couldn't pass this up. Double major points if I could get my hands on one in the future.

3.  LTS Dolls

I know the ones who manage to score one of these rare dolls are truly lucky souls to have been graced this blessing gift. I am one of those lucky souls. Truly something precious. I would love for a replica or retro doll to be released one day.

4.  1989 Hello Kitty Stapler with Hello Kitty face Staples

One of my fondest childhood memories was owning this Hello Kitty stapler. It would let you staple cute HK staples on a paper. It was something that I most enjoyed having when I was a kid. Even my teacher in grade school thought it was cute because I had turned in one of my assignments with a Hello Kitty face staple.

5.   Hello Kitty Flashing and Light up Pen

The fact that Christmas is my favorite holiday was because I remembered that the HK/Pochacco flashing light up pen came out around the holidays. The whole store was filled with so many goodies, but this stood out the most because it would light up when pushed down.

6.  Hello Kitty Kitchen Cutting Board

This cutting board just screams too cute style for grown ups! It's something you definitely know older adults wouldn't mind using in the kitchen. I know I would! It's not pink or plastic!

Well, that completes my list for the year 2015. All choices on the list have already been released and cannot be found as easily to obtain and add to my collection. Hopefully, one day. Until then, good luck to all collectors working on their never ending wishlists.

Sanriofied Xmas

Holidays are a very memorable and joyous occasion that spreads happiness and love. Little things like dressing up warmly in cute Sanrio themed pajamas while opening gifts on Christmas morning adds to one of the most favorite seasons of all. Christmas songs are playing in the background, while the house is bustling with energetic joy.

During this holiday season, you'll be seeing a lot of Sanrio addicts drinking egg nog or hot cocoa from their favorite Sanrio character mug. In the morning light, Christmas themed Sanrio character glass ornaments shimmer along the Christmas tree.

Underneath the tree, presents are beautifully gift wrapped in Sanrio themed wrapping with huge bows made of Hello Kitty or My Melody figures. Next to the pile of gifts lay a giant sized Hello Kitty plush with a beautiful vibrant red bow tied around the neck.

This season marks the time where Sanrio collectors can dream of a Sanriofied Christmas because years ago, no one could have imagined the possibilities.

If you can just imagine what Christmas can be like with more Sanrio holiday decor...

Halloween Nails

I wasn't planning on having my nails done for Halloween this year. It all started with a simple design from a talented nail artist from Kawaii Nails in Tustin, California. When I first saw the picture on Instagram, I thought it was a perfect yet simple design for Halloween.

I have always wanted to have my nails painted all black and it felt like perfect timing for a spooky season in October.

PREVIEWS

Magic in progress

When I get fascinated by a simple design, I won't be able to stop thinking about it. While I was making an appointment with my favorite nail artist at Marie Nails in Koreatown, I just knew I had to have that nail design replicated.

Spooky yet glamour fun

And I did just that -- my nails are black and ready to celebrate Halloween. Mika did an excellent job as usual. The details that Mika added are exquisite. When my hands move, my eye catches a glimmer of shine. The black matted nails match perfectly with the zombie and skeleton Hello Kitty art. Simple but fun.

Having my nails done makes me get into the spirit of the holidays even more. I feel ready to head on to the end of the year and face a new beginning. I'm looking forward to next year's Halloween nail design to try out.

Happy Halloween!

Pen Review: Pentel Vicuna

Lately, if you stepped into a Sanrio boutique store, you will notice that the pens have gotten a "makeover" change. It has a different appearance and feel to it since it looks like an ordinary office stationery ballpoint pen, but with a kawaii touch added to it.

I bought this pen pictured above -- thinking that it's cute and something to use at my office desk. As a pen, it did it's job. Writes on paper perfectly. No ink smears. A regular office pen.

It was through an accident that I discovered that the image design on the pen can be easily erased by water. I bought this pen for one reason only and that was because it had Hello Kitty on it. It had a Sanrio brand on it.

I had accidentally spilled water on my desk and this Pentel collaborated pen had been nearby. I had assumed that the kawaii design print on the pen was permanent. Simply having water on it and wiping it dry to have the design disappear-- makes the pen seem like it was a waste of a product. I wanted a Hello Kitty pen with cute images to last forever.

With the images off, it was just an ordinary plain blue pen. I felt like I wasted my money. I think I will just stick to the pens that are cutely decorated all over like I have been buying over the years from Sanrio.

Best Sanrio Collectibles for 2015

To sum it up for this year, it was all a blur for me. Time came and sped by me while I went on and about my daily life.

While I am still a collector at heart-- along the way, I have accumulated more Sanrio items to add to my collection. As I trade my old storage bins for newer and sturdier water proof bins, I have been trying to conserve and make more room for my ever growing collection. It hasn't been easy trying to find more space, but I needed to think long term plans until I can find a more appropriate way of displaying everything in the future.

While I was planning my future, two major Sanrio events has happened: The Sanrio Festival tour and Hong Kong's Sanrio Game Master event.

It might not be as good as Hello Kitty Con, but it was another exciting adventure to take on with open arms.

With these two smaller events have passed, there are two items that stood out for me this year. There wasn't anything outstanding from the Festival tour, but there is one item that came from Hong Kong's Sanrio Game Master.

Sanrio Game Master 2015 Monopoly

It's the first ever Monopoly with **not** just ONLY Hello Kitty!

Tokidoki's Kittypatra
Released Mid-October

A work of art that needed to be loved and shared with fans of all ages

This masterpiece of such grandness is the holy grail to all shrines out there -- well, for Hello Kitty collectors out there if you have to be specific about it. The Queen has risen and it puts a whole new meaning to our love for the kitty. We all have been blessed by Sanrio and Tokidoki for the splendid wonder that they have graced upon us all.

So HK lovers, kneel before the Queen and pay your respects. Show her your love because this fandom is going on a whole newer level of obsession.

Halloween

It feels like it has been a long time coming with these few months flying by so fast. You would think that it was just recently that we celebrated the holidays and now, we're upon that time again.

Surprisingly this year, I have found myself feeling the holiday spirit even more so than the past couple of years. I want to celebrate and spread the joy. Whenever I hear festive music, my feet starts tapping away to the beat. It's infectious, isn't it?

Wait and see...
I'll get you into the spirit for this holiday season.

Trick or Meow
You know Halloween is coming when you see many stores decorating for the event. I'm very happy that Sanrio has decided to join in on the fun by releasing Halloween themed plushes.

My work desk kittified for Halloween

It would be even more amazing if Sanrio had gone all out for this holiday season with more Sanrio characters decor. I'm not talking about just plushes. When you decorate for a holiday, the average consumers do not depend on plushes. The options to decorate for the holidays are a wide range of different decor available to us. The exception with Sanrio is that they don't think big. Why depend on plushes to decorate? Is it a budget thing?

When I was decorating my desk, I knew these two little plushes was not enough, so I bought and added small black spiders. Now, I wish these little spiders had a Hello Kitty face in the front, along with other Sanrio buddie spider version friends. Little things like these would have made a big statement that "yeah, I'm a lover for Sanrio-- but, aren't these spiders the cutest-scary things that you've ever seen?"

Another thing that would have been different is a Halloween HK pumpkin like the one on my desk. There must be others out there with the mindset of "think outside the box" kind of deal. I just see too much dependence on plushes to decorate a specific theme. Whether it being a holiday or a "Not Married Anymore" theme party, there should be other type of decor that is fun and wild to buy from Sanrio.

Hopefully, one day Sanrio fans can decorate with more options available. I'd love to see how creative they can get without the dependence on plushes for decor.

Starlight in Hello Kitty World

Do you ever think what it is like to travel to another world?  A world that doesn't exist in your reality, but in your imagination.

I'd like to believe that we can have two worlds: reality vs. virtual world.

I have found my virtual world in Hello Kitty World -- well, for the time being until something better comes along...

As I continue playing Hello Kitty World game on my iPhone, I've thought a lot about my progress over the last 2.5+ years.  In this game, you had to have extreme patience because the series decorations are released every few months. It was worse waiting for more land space because that seemed like it was released every 6-12 months.

In the beginning, I just collected decorations without decorating and ultimately at the end, my patience has paid off. While I don't have everything blueprinted, I have made a lot of progress to be able to show off my Starlight world.

My beachside isn't fully ready to be shown off, but a part of it is blueprinted

Left side of Hello Kitty Kingdom. The top left is still unfinished

Right side of Hello Kitty Kingdom

When I was decorating, I didn't have everything all at once. It was bits and pieces that eventually, everything came into place. When one part doesn't seem right or fit with the scene that I was trying to create, then I would start over until I was satisfied with the outcome.

Before I introduce my virtual world to you--

Close your eyes and immerse yourself into your imagination. Reach deep inside yourself and open that door to my world. Now follow my words as I tell you my story...

Hello Kitty Kingdom in Starlight is my favorite park so far. It has the mysterious adventure aspect of Alice in Wonderland and the beauty of apples theme running throughout the park.

At the entrance to Hello Kitty Kingdom, it is protected by a garden portal. Without a magical token, you won't be able to enter Hello Kitty Kingdom. You would just enter the portal and exit to the other side and would see only an ordinary park.

Now, if you followed the rules and have a magical token in your possession, then you would have exited the portal to step into an enchanted land. As you step forward in astonishment, you will look down to see that your ordinary street clothes have changed. You have changed into a Hello Kitty themed Alice in Wonderland outfit with matching shoes.

Shoes that seem to glow as you step on a card deck. If you wander astray, your shoes will stop glowing, indicating that you are going the wrong way and off your course. It doesn't help that the backdrop of this wonderful world is filled with fascinating things. Things like a huge pocketwatch that ticks loudly as you pass by, flowers made out of candy, trees that whistle a tune when a breeze flitters by and overgrown giant size mushrooms that seem so unreal.

Did you touch it? Look, your shoes stopped glowing. Was it worth it? Yeah, I did it, too, when I first came to Starlight. Yup, that giant mushroom is real.

After following the card of deck road, you will be stopped by a gate check. Double security in Hello Kitty Kingdom. Past the gate, there will be a Hello Kitty booth that will give you a map to the kingdom. Time to choose your path...

To the right-- is a rest stop with a Alice In Wonderland restaurant with a matching theme garden. To the left, you will be invited to Hello Kitty's home and be a guest to a Hello Kitty theme wedding. The bride and groom? The favorite couple, of course! Dear Daniel and Hello Kitty.

And, when you get to the castle, time just stops in wonder. Literally, time stops. Inside the castle is filled with everything vintage classic of Hello Kitty. Treasures that fill every room. In the center of the castle is a big showroom fit for a Queen. A throne sits in the middle of the room that is only reserved for the royal kitty.

Once you have finished roaming the castle and step outside, time returns to normal. Surrounding the castle are beautiful landscapes of garden. Protecting the beautiful garden is a magical Hello Kitty fairy who only comes alive when danger is present.

After you reach the end of the tour, you would think that was it, but that's not all. Hello Kitty Kingdom doesn't just end here...

Psst... the adventure continues beyond the magical Hello Kitty water fountain. The path will lead you to another part of Starlight that promises more wonderful sights. But, that story is for another time because time is money. I have to go back to reality and earn money to buy more Hello Kitty stuff for my collection. Until then... meow

Festival Videos

Here are two videos from the Sanrio Festival (aka HK's Supercute Friendship Festival) in Inglewood, California.

Both videos are from the same day on June 12. As you can see, it was a fun day out for me. Cute mascots, photo-ops, a musical show, and some shopping on the side to do.

Kittified Makeover Diary

Below is a blog post that I started writing earlier this year, but I kept putting it off from finishing the post. Here it is below with a photo of my kittified room half done.

Here's my story:

It's that time to start anew.  Every time that we start a new year, I think of a new beginning. A time to start afresh and welcome the new spring.

My new year consists of completing my room transformation project. From an ordinary and average room to a theme oriented room. I wanted what I saw in the mobile app, Line Play's kittified cartoon room.

Although, I didn't want it all just one character. My room was going to be all Sanrio themed. Well, for now that is...

For these past few months, I have been waiting patiently for the last final touch that will complete my Makeover Project. It's been a two year long project that seemed like it would last forever.

Now, I can say that I have succeeded in all my makeover plans because I have achieved the ultimate wish any collector can dream about... a Hello Kitty sofa. Not just any ordinary sofa that we're talking about here: a glorified Hello Kitty shaped sofa made for adult size. Not the kind of sofa where they sticked a Hello Kitty face on it and pass it off as the real deal.

My most coveted treasure to date

Also, a special custom made sofa that can only be bought from Japan and nowhere else. Imported all the way from Japan, my Hello Kitty sofa is another continuation of my Sanrio journey.

My Hello Kitty sofa is a game changer for my Makeover plan.

I could get by without the sofa and have displayed all my other coveted collections, but this sofa changes the playing field. This sofa is the coup de grace.

In order to emphasize a theme, you would need something out of ordinary to achieve the best result. What better way to do it than a Hello Kitty sofa? It's big, pretty to look at, pearly white new, and best of all-- you can't buy it locally. It's not something an average person could go out of his or her way to get.

As the months have passed with me owning this gem of a sofa, I feel like I am stuck in an ongoing dream. A dream filled with happiness and cuteness that surrounds me on a daily basis.

A dream that started when I became a serious full time collector. I wanted to see if I could transform my home without making an average person think that it was only a kid's bedroom or themed home. I wanted to prove that Sanrio decor can still achieve that cool effect.

To prove that Hello Kity isn't just for kids anymore. It can also be for adults. So, world-- embrace us, adult collectors, because we're not going anywhere.

My collection for display

What's next for my Kittified Makeover Project? You tell me, Sanrio, how far can this Sanrio Addict can dream...
